Virgin Media Cable TV

Ex: NTL TeleWest Cable TV system

Virgin Media to show near live clips for Premier League matches

From 2007/8 - 2009/10 seasons

In July 2006 ntl Telewest confirmed that it would acquire the exclusive right to offer ‘near live’ clips of all Premier League football matches for the 2007/8-2009/10 seasons over the internet. Uniquely, these clips will be available to ntl Telewest customers on-demand for up to a week after transmission of a football match – the ultimate catch-up package.

Consumers will be able to re-live the best of the action from all the week’s Premier League matches on their PC, laptop or internet-enabled device. Packaged in a range of exciting formats that add real value to the consumer, the rights will be creatively bundled with the company’s broadband and mobile services.

Together with a range of other premium content, the rights will form part of a truly differentiated content proposition that enhances the consumer’s experience, reinforces the appeal of the company’s services and - following the recent acquisition of Virgin Mobile - fully exploits its ‘quad-play’ capability.

Commenting on the acquisition, Malcolm Wall, CEO of ntl Telewest’s Content division said: “Acquiring these rights is good news for the company and its consumers. As the UK’s largest broadband provider and the UK’s only ‘quad play’ operator, they are a perfect fit with our business. For football fans they will form the basis of the ultimate catch-up service and help underpin a genuinely value-added service.”

About ntl Telewest

ntl Incorporated is the UK's largest cable operator and a leading provider of broadband, digital television, telephony, content and communications services to homes, businesses and public sector organizations. From the consolidation of the cable industry to the roll-out of broadband, ntl and Telewest have led the communications industry for over a decade, providing services to 5 million residential customers and reaching 85% of UK businesses.

ntl Incorporated's success is based on a £13 billion investment in a state-of-the-art, fibre-rich network. Its speed and interactivity make it a uniquely versatile platform for the digital age. The company's network today passes over 12 million homes in the UK - over 50% of UK households - and offers customers competitively priced access to a choice of communication services and personalised entertainment services.

ntl Incorporated is committed to creating a digitally rich and inclusive nation. As a result, it is continuously working to develop next generation residential, business and public services that have the potential to transform the way we live and work. The company is also working to make the UK a safer and more secure place to use the internet.

ntl Telewest - Consumer services

ntl Incorporated offers a 'triple play' of broadband internet, digital TV and telephone services to over 12.million homes across the UK. Typically, a new customer can sign up to all three services for around £30 per month.

Broadband internet

The cable industry led the development of broadband in the UK. ntl and Telewest were the first companies to introduce a residential broadband service and have continued to consistently innovate in the market. A focus on value and quality has resulted in more families choosing ntl Incorporated for broadband than any other company in the UK.

ntl Incorporated offers its customers product choice - from a high-speed 10Mb service to an entry level 1Mb service - all with leading security and content options.

As well as its own broadband customers, ntl Incorporated provides a network platform for some of the UK's other leading Internet service providers, including AOL, Tesco.net and Virgin.Net.

Digital television

ntl and Telewest have been providing digital cable TV services since 2000. Today, digital cable offers over 200 channels, as well as movies, sports and live events, an on-screen programme guide and 'red button' functionality. The companies pioneered interactive TV in the UK, utilising their two-way network.

ntl and Telewest continue to shape the future of digital TV. In 2005, the cable companies launched the UK's first mass market TV on Demand (TVOD) services. TVOD allows customers instant access to a wide choice of movies, as well as music, children's TV, general entertainment and adult programming, all available to watch at a time that suits them rather than as part of a fixed TV schedule. There's also a free service allowing customers to watch the best of the previous week's television - all without having to set the video recorder. Over a million families are already connected to TVOD and over ten million films or programmes have been viewed by cable customers "on demand".

In early 2006, ntl Incorporated launched the UK's first High Definition TV service. This new service will be rolled out and developed, together with a high quality personal video recorder, later this year.

Telephone

ntl and Telewest provide local, national and international telephone services for residential customers within the company's franchise areas. The companies pioneered the launch of fixed price calling options. A flexible range of packages are available to suit the lifestyle and needs of different households. For instance, customers can fix the price of calls made in the evenings and at weekends. For customers with large families, a 24/7 fixed price option provides peace of mind.

ntl Telwest - Content

Television

ntl Incorporated's content division, Flextech Television, specialises in providing TV channels for the UK multichannel television market. Together they are the largest supplier of basic channels in the UK pay television market, viewed by 27 million people in 12 million homes.

During 2006 Flextech will transition into a commissions-driven business with the creation of an in-house programme development team ensuring that 40% of all content is UK produced.

IDS, Flextech's advertising sales house, provides innovative advertising solutions for its clients, working to make TV ever more engaging for viewers and advertisers alike.

Minotaur, Flextech's cross-media marketing and distribution company, represents a variety of producers from the UK and overseas and has over 3500 hours of programming in its catalogue.
