Live match Commentary is sent to your computer using
'streaming technology'; the most popular is Real Player; This is not
normally provided with your Internet Browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape
Navigator). These plug-ins are, however, free and take a few seconds
to download and install before you can hear the Premium League Match live!
Note: When listening to the Match Commentary there can be a
delay of a minute or so - this is the time taken to encode the speech and send
it to your computer. This is because the Internet was not designed as a
broadcast medium and this additional software has to be used. To cater for
poor quality lines the software will buffer or cache 2 or 3 seconds of commentary
on your machine - in this way it can catch-up if there is a small interruption
without you even knowing about it!
Some clubs provide online chat facilities where supporters can
chat online to each other and the referee! This may require additional
software to be downloaded. Chat occurs in real-time and you might get told
in a chat room about an incident, penalty, goal etc a minute before the match
commentator tells you about it!
Occasionally the link is lost (this technology isn't perfect)
but by going straight to PremierLive.co.uk
you are one-click away from listening to the other club's commentary team!
